Show 11

Dakota's Resturaunt

Diary:
so we learned of an opportunity to play while still on the road to the 'burgh. Papa Jacob (my dear old dad) was playing a show with one of his 3 groups, the randall troy band, at dakota's, right outside the city, and offered to have us play in between their sets. being as stage-hungry and attentioning seeking as we are, we jumped at it.

dakota's is your typical dive bar and sole source of entertainment for a good radius around. though they are notorious for inviting bands and then getting mad at them for doing what they're getting paid for--ie play music, often "too loud"--and for being super stingy since being under new management, the show went really well. we met randall troy band's berklee bound guitarist and his lovely girlfriend and shared our knowledge of boston, of the good and the bad, and got to see my dad wail on his bass.

we played one set to a skeptical crowd with just bass and guitar, playing most of our own stuff as well as a few covers, including the newly added "the way i feel inside" by the zombies. we won over the sax player with frank black as well as one woman who told both of us, on separate occassions, "that last one was fucking beautiful." we were also told by two guys at the bar that we could win, no doubt, america's got talent. while that show makes me weep upon viewing, and not in the good way, we sincerely appreciate the compliment.

we enjoyed some $3.75 vodka tonics (that's right bostonians, $3.75 and in normal sized glasses.... it is possible and is in fact normal elsewhere!), and the dance stylings of a very enthusiastic randall troy fan in tight black jeans. all in all, a very good night.

peace,

~Maura
